Who we are
The SIMS Member App is run by Corniche Diaspora Kenya Qatar Sacco ("the Sacco", "we", "us"). Our registered address is at Kenyan Embassy QATAR, Saha 105, Legtaifiya, Zone 66 Street 575 Building 14.
For questions about your data, contact Mr. Omar Farah or Office at info@cornichediasporasacco.com.
What the app is for
The app lets members of the Sacco see and manage their own membership: savings, shares and loans; apply for a loan; answer requests to guarantee a loan; buy, sell and transfer shares; choose how a rebate or dividend is paid; show interest in plots offered for sale; update their details and next of kin; and withdraw from the Sacco.
You must be a member with a login to use it.
What we collect and why
The app shows and sends information the Sacco already holds about you as a member, and information you enter.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your login (member number or username) and password | To sign you in. Your password is checked by our server and is never stored on your phone. |
| Your member details: name, email, phone numbers, addresses, date of birth, gender, identity document type and number | To identify you and keep your membership record correct. |
| Your bank account details (bank, branch, account name and number) and, where you choose it, an M-Pesa phone number | To pay out approved loans, refunds, rebates and dividends. |
| Your KRA PIN, and how you want your rebate or dividend paid (savings, shares, a loan, M-Pesa or bank) | To file the withholding tax on your rebate or dividend, and to pay it as you chose. |
| Plots you show interest in, and how you plan to pay | To record your interest in a plot for sale and tell you the next step. |
| Your next of kin: names, contact details, identity number, share | To record who receives your savings. |
| Your savings, share, loan, guarantee and contribution records | To show you your account and process what you ask for. |
| Loan application details, referees you name (their names, phone, email, address, identity number) and documents you upload (for example a copy of your ID or passport, or a payslip) | To assess your loan application. |
| Details of other members you name, such as a guarantor's member number and first name | To send a guarantee request to that member. |
| A device identifier we create for your phone, and the phone's make and model | Only if you turn on fingerprint or face sign-in, so we can recognise that phone and let you remove it later. |
| Technical records of errors (crash reports) | To find and fix faults. We do not put your password or amounts in these records. |
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos (other than a file you choose to attach), or advertising identifiers. The app has no advertising and we do not sell your data.
Fingerprint and face sign-in
If you turn this on, your phone checks your fingerprint or face. That biometric data stays on your phone. The app and the Sacco never receive it. The phone only tells the app that it matched. You can turn it off, or remove the phone under Me, Security, at any time, and you can always sign in with your password instead.
Who we share data with
- Other members, only what is needed for a request. For example, a guarantor sees the applicant's name, the loan amount, period, purpose and the amount asked, and a member you name as a replacement guarantor sees the loan details.
- The Sacco's officers and committees (for example the credit committee and the executive team), to process your requests.
- Service providers who store or process data for the Sacco, such as hosting and email providers: Zoho Mail and Amazon Web Services (AWS). They act only on the Sacco's instructions.
- Authorities, credit reference bureaus and others when the law requires it. For loans in default, information may be sent to a credit reference bureau, as stated in the loan terms.
We do not share your data with advertisers.
Where your data is kept and for how long
Your data is held on the Sacco's servers with Amazon Web Services Servers based in United States of America. We keep membership and financial records for 10 years as required by law and our By Laws. Documents you upload for a loan application are kept for a period of 5 years.
How we protect it
- The app talks to our server over an encrypted (https) connection only.
- Your sign-in session is kept in the phone's secure storage. The app locks after a time you choose and asks for your fingerprint, face or password again.
- Actions that move money or change your membership or bank account ask you to confirm with your fingerprint, face or password.
- The released version of the app blocks screenshots and screen recordings, and hides its contents in the phone's recent-apps view.
- The app does not allow phone backups to copy your sign-in.
- If you lose your phone, change your password (on the web or in the app) and remove the phone under Me, Security.
Your choices and rights
You can see and correct many of your details in the app (Me, Your details; Me, Next of kin). Your name, email and identity details are changed by contacting the Sacco.
You may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it and, where the law allows, ask us to delete it. To ask for deletion, follow the steps on our data deletion page. Records the Sacco must keep by law or by-laws cannot be deleted while that duty lasts.
Contact us using the details above.
Children
The app is for adult members.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell members in the app or by email.
